On:song at WeWork summer camp
On 18th August on:song directors George and Greg travelled to Eridge Park in Tunbridge Wells to bring on:song to the WeWork Summer Camp, with the brief to run two 45 minute group singing sessions.
Arriving on site it quickly became clear that a certain amount of merriment had been had the previous night, with a hushed tranquillity bathing the beautifully assembled site. Sore heads and slumped shoulders were quickly uplifted through stretching and humming, before tearing into an ambitious arrangement of Aretha Franklin’s RESPECT in a hastily assembled dedication to the late queen of soul. It turns out however that the refrain sock-it-to-me quickly repeated many times over is a real tongue twister and really hard to sing and this was the source of much amusement in the first workshop.
Both groups, international in makeup, were strong of voice and very keen to be challenged. We were delighted to be working with such engaged singers, and even managed to work on the first few bars of an Icelandic hymn with the second group, no mean feat!
Massive thanks to WeWork for having us as part of such a fantastic event, and to the singers who came in good numbers and with such enthusiasm. We look forward to coming back next year!
