Who are on:song?
On:song was started in 2016 by two musicians, Greg and George.
Greg liked singing in choirs so much he started one, and then another. As well as regularly waving his arms at various groups of singers he has arranged and recorded choral music for Roxy Music (recently performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall), Channel 4’s Random Acts, The Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival, Escape Rooms and has also performed as a singer and musician at concerts and festivals across the country.
George has over 15 years industry experience across a broad range of musical, cultural and ethnomusicological projects. As a musician he has toured all over the world, and highly values having his experiences ‘from both sides of the microphone.’ George comes from a long family line of proud folk musicians. Indeed, as well as spending many months exploring the antarctic ice shelf in a tiny tent with Scott and Shackleton, great grandfather Barne spent two years entertaining the crew of the icebound Discovery on the fiddle.
In 2017 Greg and George set up the Music Halls project, repurposing stunning old buildings to be used as spaces for live performance. Having established itself as a cultural driving force, The Music Halls project sits at the heart of Waltham Forest’s burgeoning cultural scene, and is proud to have been instrumental in the successful bid for Waltham Forest to become borough of culture in 2019.
